Tim Forcade is the artist we think of as our discovery of the year. His photographs fit the trendy term “extreme.”  They range from micro close-ups of flowers to aerial images of shorelines, but have in common a very painterly attitude regarding composition and color.  Looking at the images on line doesn’t reveal the remarkable detail of cellular water drops in the orchid blooms or the faceting of light on the water.  If you want to know the direction of art photography in the 21st century, come see Tim Forcade’s show.

Vernon Brejcha is a Lawrence glass artist in the collection of many museums in the US, Europe and Japan, among them The Smithsonian.  The exhibit of his glass art includes works from as far back as 1972.

We also have a long anticipated exhibit of collaborative prints by Lisa Grossman and Justin Marable.  Long admirers of each other’s work, Grossman and Marable began collaborating on a painterly printmaking project in late 2008. Lisa, a painter and printmaker from Lawrence, and Justin, a silkscreen artist from Topeka, thought it would be interesting to combine each other's ideas and techniques in a series of experimental painterly prints. Many of these unique works involve layering Lisa's watercolors and acrylic painting with Justin's inventive silkscreen processes.  The artists also made small editions of six larger images, though each print involves hand painting that has created expressive variations within each edition. Both artists contributed photographic imagery to the work.

The show will feature each artist's own work in addition to the collaborative prints.
