Kathleen Kuchar

Kathleen Kuchar (pronounced koo-har)  is known for paintings and prints that are vibrant and expressive.  Her watercolor monotypes are whimsical with animals and architectural shapes interacting in dreamlike landscapes. She learned to do watercolor monotypes while studying in Florence, Italy at the Santa Reparta Graphic Arts Studio and instantly fell in love with the process. “ I have the best of two worlds when I make a monotype—I can combine painterly effects with the magic of printmaking.”

Kathleen retired from Fort Hays State University in 2001 and has been enjoying her time creating new works in her studio and teaching workshops in Hays as well as nationally.  She is listed in WHO’S WHO IN AMERICAN ART, and in 1980 Fort Hays honored Kathleen as top teacher (Pilot Award), and in 1998, recognized her extensive research with the University’s Distinguished Scholar Award.  A highlight of Kuchar’s career includes being named Kansas Governor’s Visual Artist in 1993.
