Sculpture has become an impulsive medium to me. It mostly serves two purposes; an outlet for images/ideas that seem to appear instantly in my minds eye and a tremendous need to “build something”. When the tornado hit Manhattan, Kansas in 2008, images poured out. As each formed, a narrative followed. “The wind blew hard, sirens sounded, homes were hit and roads were closed.” Reminders of storm damage - traffic cones, bits of broken bricks and wood, help solidify the imaginary elements to be made into sculptural objects. I don’t spend a great deal of time making those connections. I like working this way. The smallest of ideas might become an actual object or become a forgotten memory.
