Lisa Lala
|
Known for her luscious, expressive oil paintings on glass and canvas, Lisa Lala became well known for her Birds on a Wire series. Other series include the Hill series, Ferris Wheel series, the List series, all which often include her doodles, drawings and stream-of-conscious writings sketched into the paint with a carpenter’s pencil. Lala’s parents are sculptor Wil Lala, and painter/sculptor Susan Lala. Growing up in the American midwest, Lala was raised with a global perspective as her family often traveled to impoverished countries as medical volunteers. Her education continued at the University of Kansas where she received a BFA. Subsequently she studied under New York painter Wolf Kahn, Slovenian painter Tjasa Demsar (in France), and abstract painter Philomene Bennett in Kansas City. Lisa has been represented by the Strecker-Nelson Gallery since her premier exhibit in her hometown of Manhattan, KS. Following her launch in 2003 at the Strecker-Nelson Gallery, she has had over ten sell-out shows nationwide. Lala’s work is now in many notable public, private and museum collections.
