My paintings are about paint. The tools of painting -- color, texture and mark making -- are the means for exploring relationships between the perceptual and the conceptual. My paintings mix elements of the concrete with the abstract. I delight in discovering ways to utilize collisions of color and color shapes to create spatial illusions on a two-dimensional surface. Like pieces of a puzzle, I play with colors, shapes, textures and marks to manipulate illusions of space and volume. My classical training in drawing and painting provides a foundation for abstracting forms drawn from nature to reflect the essence of observed reality. I studied drawing and painting at the Corcoran School of Art and the Washington Studio School in Washington, D.C. |
